Celebrating 30 years!
I studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1990-1994 - specialising in Ceramics.
My first Studio set up in 1995 was in a goat house (actually shared it with the goat). I didn’t have a kiln so I built a wood-fired Raku kiln using bricks from Wetheriggs Pottery as it was closing.
I then spent 13 years in an old Woollen Mill near Sedbergh followed by 10 years in an old Carpet Factory in Kendal (where they made the carpets for Concord!).
I have recently relocated to Kirkbymoorside in North Yorkshire where I have converted a Victoria wash-house into my current studio.
I love porcelain for it’s sometimes unforgiving sensitivity to the makers hand, as a pure white canvas for the glaze and for its beautiful practicality. As my work develops over time, I hope it retains a freshness and simplicity.
I have recently been enjoying the use of brush marks and lines to add abstract impressions of scale and place within the landscape.
